First of all I will start off by describing the function of a hot water heater vent and why it is necessary to have one. The main purpose of having a hot water heater vent is to remove products of combustion from the heater and release the gases to the outer atmosphere while making sure condensation of the gases inside the vent doesn’t take place.
There are various types of venting when it comes to water heaters. One such type of a hot water heater vent is natural venting. Here the venting is done through a pipe and a chimney, where the low mass of the gasses makes them elevate towards the chimney and through to the outside air. When using natural venting methods one must be careful to maintain an increment of one inch of height to every feet of the venting pipe to prevent the gases from condensing inside the pipe.

One should be very careful when it comes to the installation of hot water heater vent. Because improper installation of venting can result in accidents where there exist a possibility of both you and your property suffering from severe damage. One of the main things one should do is to be mindful when it comes to the installation of hot water heater vent piping; when doing the piping one should bear in mind not to have improper patches, sharp turns and long runs of horizontal piping. This will ensure that the pressure won’t build inside the venting pipe and that the gases don’t get released in any unwanted places other than from the chimney at the end of the vent pipe.
