This is one of the first questions that a potential freelancer asks: “How much will I make as a freelancer?” Unfortunately, there is no pat answer to that question. How much you make depends on numerous factors, including the amount of work that you can do, your skill, how high the demand for your skill is, and of course, what the going rate for that work is.
There are many sources that will try to predict how much money is made, on average, for particular fields, and this is a good guideline – but, unfortunately, it isn’t accurate. Just because a writer can make $60,000 a year does not mean that you will make $60,000 a year.
The best way to determine how much money is made for particular projects is to join one of the freelance websites, such as Rent-A-Coder, ScriptLance, or Elance. Remember that the work that you do is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. So, look to see how many potential clients are willing to pay for the type of work that you do.
With that information, you can determine how much work you will need to do in order to make the amount of money that you need. It is wise to determine how much money you need each month, and to work from that number.
For example, if you need $3,000 per month, and you know that the type of work that you do pays $300 per job, you know that you need to do 10 jobs in that month. You have to determine how long it takes to do each job, to ensure that you will actually be able to do 10 jobs per month.
So, how much money do freelancers make? That depends on the skill and the length of time that it takes the freelancer to complete a project. Again, there is no definitive answer; however, it has been said that freelancers basically determine their own income, based on what they charge, how fast they can do the work, and how easily they can find that work.
