As much as 10 or 20 percent of a persons hair may be in a resting mode and only actively growing hair will be killed by the laser light. This fact will necessitate at least one repeated treatment session, sometimes more, to achieve the desired results.

The laser is designed to be attracted to dark colors, especially the hair roots, and if the person is deeply tanned or has dark skin, may not be effective.
