Scuba diving is popular in Sanibel Island, Florida. In fact, numerous island reviews have claimed that Sanibel Island is the perfect destination for scuba divers. Well, perhaps the one main reason for such claim is that more than a dozen artificial reefs lie within a 15 mile radius of Sanibel Island, making this barrier island off the southwest coast of Florida great for scuba diving and even for snorkeling.

Speaking of reefs, the scuba in Sanibel Island is commonly popular on the Edison Reef. This reef was created from the rubble of a former mainland bridge. It was built less than 15 nautical miles from the historic Sanibel Lighthouse in 42 feet of water.

There is also the Belton Johnson Reef, which is located closer to heart of Sanibel. According to some researches, this ideal spot for scuba in Sanibel Island was named after a well-known local fishing guide in Sanibel, and this reef has a length of about 5 nautical miles off the Bowman’s Beach. You can easily identify this special spot for scuba in Sanibel Island because of the yellow and white markers that show the location of the reef. The markers are all constructed of concrete culverts.

Aside from Edison and Belton John reefs, scuba in Sanibel Island is also popular around the Peagus or Charlie’s Reef. This reef is actually the newest reef as it was installed just last July 1999. This special location for scuba in Sanibel Island is located 28 miles due west of Red Fish Pass, and a large tug boat was added to a number of railroad hoppers that already have quiet an assortment of residences, including barracuda, cobia, grouper, amber jack, moray eel and nurse shark.

Note that such mentioned reefs are perfect for scuba in Sanibel Island knowing that they help restock the Sanibel waters with fish for the benefit of the scuba divers and fishermen alike.

Now, if you are planning to explore and discover the underwater of Sanibel at those above mentioned reefs, I guess you would be happy to know that there is a particular company in Sanibel that could teach you the proper way to scuba and provide you the necessary equipments for your scuba in Sanibel Island – the Seahorse Scuba.

The Seahorse Scuba is actually a PADI 5-star training facility located in Kapok Plaza in Fort Myers Florida. This is a family owned and operated business leading the Fort Myers and Sanibel area in scuba diving education and services since 1989. Also, this company is a full service dive center, selling and servicing equipment from the most highly recognized manufacturers in the world. They also have a complete rental department with an air and Nitrox fill stations, as well as dive charter boats for those who wish to experience an ultimate scuba in Sanibel Island, Fort Myers and Captiva Island.

What is more nice to know about this scuba diving company is that they offer certification classes for scuba in Sanibel Island as well as referral certification dives that are done to your schedule. And, as what most of the reviews have noted, the Seahorse Scuba is by far the most affordable dive shop for an ultimate scuba in Sanibel Island.
