When iphone was released, iphone cost was a staggering $599 for the higher model. Seemingly expensive for a phone without any other Internet capability except for the WiFi, many people in the US still bought even if the gadget was described to be overly priced. Even four days before the official launch in Apple stores, people have already lined outside to be the first of the few to hold an iphone. That last weekend of June, it was reported that 500,000 million units of iphone was sold.

But only 3 months after its historic launch, Apple cut down the price by almost $200. Last September 5, Steve Jobs surprised hundreds of thousands of early iphone adapters in the United States in the decision to lower the iphone cost with the release of the newest iPod touch. iPod touch, an iphone without the phone capabilities, are now sold for slightly lower than the first iphone cost. With this change, many Apple iphone fanatics were shocked and puzzled.

Apple’s Quick Answer to the iphone Cost

Steve Jobs, as always, was quick to respond to the questions about the cut price. Exactly 2 days after Apple’s announcement of the newest iPod models that include the new array of colors of the iPod shuffke, the iPod classic, and the iPod touch, the Apple’s CEO sent out a public letter to the iphone owners saying that they can get a $100 Apple store credits from them.

The highly anticipated product of the year, the iphone cost has confused many Apple fanatics. Steve Jobs was firm that Apple was making the right decision to cut the iphone cost. Apple’ CEO believes that there is no better time to do it but now. Being a new innovation, it is expected that a lot of other manufactures will create similar gadgets. Life in today’s technology was like that as Steve Jobs described in his letter which was posted on Apple.com. There will always be someone who will buy ahead and there will always be those who will wait for the next model. With the new iphone cost, Apple simply wants to make the iphone more affordable to many consumers not only in the US but also in other countries.

Much has been said about the iphone cost and a lot of angry words have already been thrown to Apple and Steve Jobs. Putting aside the issue about the iphone cost, it is important to note that iphone is one breakthrough product in this new millennium. It has paved the way for many similar touchscreen devices. Whether the iphone cost is just right or not, the iphone will always be the first in touchscreen phone’s history.
